We are currently expanding our International Medical Affairs team and are recruiting for an Associate Director who is a scientific and clinical subject matter expert in Toxin Science to build clinical expertise and provide training in toxin science internally and externally. The role will also include developing and maintaining appropriate professional relationships with external customers focusing on policy and formulary decision makers, hospital institutions, academic centers, integrated health networks, government channels, and HCPs to provide comprehensive medical and scientific education and expertise for botulinum toxin products, within the assigned territory and globally. 

This is a field-based role with the preferred candidate ideally located in Europe. 

Main Areas of Responsibilities
  • Identify, develop and maintain professional relationships with HCPs, academic centres, and decision makers to provide access to current approved medical and scientific information on botulinum toxin products across all therapeutic and aesthetic indications.
  • Work with relevant colleagues in agreed high-priority countries to develop holistic, cross-indication toxin science plans, tools, and messages
  • Provide input and insight to support global Toxin Science strategies and operational tactics within CMO and the larger cross-functional group as required during planning cycles.
  • Work closely with other groups in Allergan (e.g. regional market access managers) to execute the global and local plan in country, providing high quality toxin science expertise on an as needed and requested basis. This will include responding to requests for botulinum toxin science support from country-specific Medical Directors and/or Regional Access Managers (RAMs), and US Director of National Account team as needed and requested, as well as other internal stakeholders.
  • Provide support as needed in country to Medical and Commercial teams in delivering clinical and pharmacy presentations and providing scientific education and expertise for medical policy and formulary initiatives, and education in a compliant manner.
  • Working with the Global Director of Toxin Science, provide medical and scientific insights from the field and utilize insights to develop appropriate audience specific tools and materials as required and requested, including working with scientific communications teams and others to develop appropriate compliant materials and monitoring competitive environment, and appropriate literature.
  • Facilitate procedural aspects regarding on-strategy submission of IIT proposals from HCPs.
  • Work with Global Evidence and Value (GEV) team in development of international tools per local regulations to share health economic data with external international customers as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with the Global Director of Toxin Science, conduct on-going global education to the Medical Affairs function across therapeutic areas, as well as field sales and other internal personnel as required. Ensure up to date knowledge of product use and competitor data, expected to be Allergan Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on toxin science, health outcomes, and landscape developments. 

Education and Experience
  • MD, Pharm. D or Ph. D or related doctorate level medical or life science related degree required
  • A combination of significant specific industry experience (pharma, device, etc) and post professional degree practice or relevant transferable experience (clinical practice, academic research, regulatory/scientific)
  • Experience with botulinum toxin science is strongly preferred
  • Experience with market access and tendering is preferred
  • Prior experience in a field-based scientific role (e.g. MSL role) preferred
  • Where relevant, a good understanding of Good Clinical Practices, ICH guidelines, PhRMA code, FDA CFR, ISO, clinical research ethics, HIPAA and patient privacy laws, EU Directive and other applicable local regulations

  • Ability to explain complex scientific principles to a variety of scientific and non-scientific audiences
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently with remote or minimal supervision in a global matrix environment
  • Familiar with Medical Affairs principles, study design and publications
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple activities and projects
