Position Overview

The Director, Global Scientific Training leads the development and implementation of industry-leading Medical Affairs training and scientific education for the CMO organization. He/she will plan and develop key CMO scientific training resources and tools, including product and disease state modules and related content across multiple therapeutic areas/products. He/she will also provide an advanced level of scientific/clinical review of MSL and CMO-related training resources and tools for accuracy, consistency, and inclusion of most recent clinical/scientific data/information and will be responsible for leading the planning for all CMO scientific training activities (live bootcamps, webinars, and other ongoing scientific training initiatives) and collaborating with other CMO teams (GME, GMA, INTL CMO) on implementation and deployment.

The Director will also provide scientifically rigorous training, competency assessment and ongoing development to US and INTL MSL members for the purpose of achieving and maintaining expert level scientific knowledge competencies in multiple disease states and products. The scope of the role will include support of both US and International CMO MSL teams as needed, dependent upon role-specific Therapeutic Area.

This position is a new position within the Global Scientific Communications & Training team.

Main Areas of Responsibilities

         Leads the development of the Global Medical Affairs medical content and training strategy for new hire onboarding, advanced training, and continuous training in assigned therapeutic area.  Works with Global SciComm, Global Medical Affairs, Global Medical Excellence, and International CMO to ensure ongoing MSL training and field resource content is aligned and consistent with the medical strategy.  Partners with Medical in the regions and countries to assess gaps in knowledge, content, and skills and ensure medical content and training deliverables address prioritized capability needs. 

         Leads development and delivery of scientific training content related to disease state, treatment landscape, and approved/investigational products in collaboration with MSL TA Leads, Medical Directors, and Sci Comm content leads. Educational materials and training initiatives include (but are not limited to)  training modules, interactive workshops, distance learning, podcasts/videos, blended approaches, and virtual learning.  Responsible for training of new hires as well as ongoing scientific training needs related to new data, emerging products, and field tools. Reviews literature alerts and competitive intelligence reports gathered at medical meetings to ensure MSL team scientific content and training is current and ahead of scientific community. Develops varied scientific training pathways with modified content to train CMO team members with diverse roles to meet role-specific scope and depth of scientific training. Maintains a "single platform" approach to all CMO scientific content.

         Leads the process for assessment of US and International MSL scientific knowledge and competency by developing assessment plans and conducting oral presentation and written product competency assessments in conjunction with the MSL Management and RSEs. Ensures that scientific training/assessments are appropriately and consistently documented. Capture feedback on the learner experience (utilization, knowledge transfer and application) to identify needs for updates/modifications/enhancements and inform plans for future needs.

         Responsible for exploring and incorporating innovative learning techniques and modalities to address business needs.  Works in close collaboration with other training functions (Medical/MSL Excellence, PTCI, HR) to ensure best in class training.

Requirements

         At least 5 years of previous MSL or related pharmaceutical industry experience, clinical and training/teaching experience highly preferred

Preferred Skills/Qualification

Strategic Responsibility:

Knowledge of pharmaceutical regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines and industry trends; knowledge of product lifecycle management; ability to critically analyze scientific data and objectively and concisely summarize and effectively communicate key findings.

Problem Solving:  

Problem solving  related to development and effective deployment of role-based scientific training processes, including utilization of new and innovative approaches to engage diverse cross-functional teams.  Additional problem solving around identifying scientific training gaps, operations related to content delivery and competency assessment, and systems management.

Nature and Area of Impact:  

Advanced level of scientific/clinical strategic approach required for the development and deployment of scientific training resources and abiility to effectively communicate the most recent clinical/scientific data/information to ensure high degree of MSL impact in the field as well as overall CMO readiness and impact in the organization. 

Interactions/Interpersonal Skills: 

The scope of the role and the related responsibilities requires substantial collaboration with GME, MSL Management, Global Medical Affairs, INTL CMO as well as other cross-functional internal groups (e.g., CMO functional teams, Compliance, IT, GEV and Clinical Development).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

         Strong knowledge of Pharma regulatory and compliance guidelines

         Must possess strong scientific background and the ability to critically review and analyze scientific literature and and effectively distill and communicate key information

         Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills and creative and strategic thinking required

         The ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and interface in a dynamic and fast-paced environment across departments

         Strong project management skills with a proven track record to deliver high-quality projects while meeting timelines

         Advanced PowerPoint skills required

         Excel knowledge and proficiency

Education

Scientific / medical / clinical education required. Licensure/Credentials:  R.Ph., PharmD., Ph.D., R.N., M.D., preferred
